The Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator Management Accounting, the role will primarily be responsible for Assisting Councils team of Finance professionals to provide a broad range of corporate finance functions in order to support the overall organisation in the delivery of a wide variety of services and infrastructure to the community 

More specifically, your core responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Assist in reconciliation of data in the relevant financial systems including but not limited to; Banking Reconciliations, Capital Value Register/Asset Management, General Ledger, Work Orders, Budget Management, Project Management, Payroll, Accounts Receivable/Payable, Rates and Revenue. 
  • Assist Finance Department staff as required in the undertaking of internal audits, cash flow monitoring and investments.
  • Assist with the maintenance and updating of the Name and Address Register. (NAR)
  • Assist Finance Department staff with completion and compilation of Annual Financial Statements, returns and reports.
  • Assist Finance Department staff with completion of budget preparation, budget reviews, budget reports and provide support to Business Unit Managers on budget management.
  • Assist Finance Department staff in the preparation of the BAS statement and any Fringe Benefits Tax requirements.
  • Assist Finance Department staff with the monitoring and review of monthly financial results.
  • Assist payroll staff with the data entry, checking and reconciliation for payroll functions.
  • Assist revenue staff to undertake the roles and functions of rates, water billing and accounts receivable.
  • Assist in month end reporting tasks (e.g. raise and enter journals with appropriate documentation, review general ledger for abnormal transactions and adjust where required).
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end financial information for audit and provide information to external auditors as required by senior Finance staff.
  • Assist and relieve staff within the Financial Department as required.
  • Assist training of Council staff in the use of financial systems and tools.
  • Other duties as directed by senior Finance staff.

Our next Business Support Officer - Finance

The ideal candidate will have;

  • At least 2 years experience in finance in an office environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated nature with demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to commit to training.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability and continued commitment to work according to Councils' policies and Code of Conduct, with or without supervision.

Hourly rate of $33.50 - $36.98 + Superannuation
