Are you passionate about creating vibrant, sustainable communities? Gunnedah Shire Council is seeking a motivated Graduate Town Planner or Town Planner to join our Community and development team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact in a progressive regional council that values innovation, collaboration, and community.
About the Role
As a key member of our Community and Development Directorate, you’ll play a crucial role in managing and assessing a variety of planning matters. You’ll provide professional advice to the community and developers, support strategic initiatives, and help ensure development in Gunnedah is in line with statutory and community expectations.
You’ll:

Provide high-quality planning advice and customer service as Council’s Duty Planner

Assess development applications and prepare accurate and timely reports
-
Assist with planning certificates, street trading, and dining applications
-
Support the implementation of legislation relating to planning and development
-
Contribute to continuous improvement of Council’s planning services
-
Liaise with developers, government agencies, and the wider community
About You
You are someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about regional development and sustainable planning. Whether you’re a recent graduate ready to kickstart your planning career or a qualified planner looking for your next opportunity, you’ll bring enthusiasm, initiative, and a strong customer focus to the role.
You’ll also have:

A degree in Urban and Regional Planning or similar (or be working towards it)

An understanding of planning legislation and development processes

Strong written and verbal communication skills

The ability to manage deadlines and work independently
-
A willingness to learn, contribute to a team, and engage with the community
-
A current Class C driver’s licence
-
Bonus points if you’ve had prior experience in development assessment or working in local government!
