Our Next Senior Survey & Design Officer
Reporting to the Manager Engineering Services, you will be responsible for operating within and promoting the virtues of Council's core values. You will have a focus on Survey, Design activities and a range of general engineering tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate engineering surveys for project investigation and design in relation to the construction and maintenance for all of Council’s Operations including:

- State and Local road network.
- Sewerage reticulation.
- Water Reticulation.
- Stormwater drainage.
- Open Spaces.
- Provide compliant and constructible detailed engineering drawings and construction models for all of Council’s Operations including:

- State and Local road network.
- Sewerage reticulation.
- Water Reticulation.
- Stormwater drainage.
- Open Spaces.
- Manage several design projects within the department and undertake survey and designs across multiple disciplines such as road design, stormwater drainage and traffic safety.
- Work collaboratively with the Works Manager in pursuing private design and construction projects, specifically pursuing ordered works under the Roads Maintenance Council Contract through timely and efficient detailed plan production.
- Provide quality engineering surveys, designs and plans that meet relevant current standards necessary for the construction and maintenance of council assets and capital works through to completion.
- Provide timely and efficient traffic engineering data including traffic data collection and land management, outsourcing where required.
- Operate with a high level of autonomy and independence in solving problems and using judgement.
- Assist in on-the-job instruction and training for staff.
- Undertake other duties as may be directed by the Manager.
Key Requirements
- Diploma of Engineering or commensurate level qualifications majoring in Engineering, Construction Management or Spatial Science.
- Demonstrated experience in survey and design across multiple disciplines including road design, storm water drainage, reticulation and traffic safety.
- Demonstrated experience in using modern surveying instruments including GNSS and machine guidance for graders, including calibration and maintenance.
- High level knowledge of requisite construction standards and codes for a range of civil infrastructure including Austroads and WSAA.
- Demonstrated experience using CAD packages in particular Autocad Civil 3d, and Civil Site Design.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and successfully manage multiple projects.
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge in use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability and continued commitment to work according to Councils' policies and Code of Conduct, with or without supervision.
- Current valid NSW Class C Drivers Licence (ongoing employment is conditional on maintaining this Licence).
While not required, desirable characteristics of a successful candidate could include:
- Experience in Local Government.
- Bachelors Degree of Surveying/Engineering or equivalent level qualifications.
